Early Years Foundation Stage

I can tell you what the marks, shapes, letters and pictures that I make mean.

I can write my name.

Year 3

I can use the diagonal and horizontal strokes that are needed to join letters and understand which letters, when adjacent to one another, are best left un-joined.

I can compose sentences using a varied and rich vocabulary and an increasing range of sentence structures.

I can include fronted time adverbials within a recount.

Year 6

I can write legibly, fluently and with increasing speed by choosing which shape of a letter to use when given choices and deciding whether or not to join specific letters.

I can select appropriate grammar and vocabulary, understanding how such choices can change and enhance meaning.

I can describe settings, characters and atmosphere and integrate dialogue to convey character and advance the action.

Year 1

I can begin to form lower-case letters in the correct direction, starting and finishing in the right place.

I can form capital letters.

I can sequence sentences to form a short recount.

I can begin to punctuate sentences using a capital letter and a full stop.

Year 4

I can use the diagonal and horizontal strokes that are needed to join letters and understand which letters, when adjacent to one another, are best left un-joined.

I can include fronted time adverbials within a recount.

I can compose sentences, building a varied and rich vocabulary and an increasing range of sentence structures.

I can organise my work into paragraphs.

Year 2

I can start using some of the diagonal and horizontal strokes needed to join letters and understand which letters, when adjacent to one another, are best left un-joined.

I can write capital letters and digits of the correct size, orientation and relationship to one another and to lower-case letters.

Year 5
